About The Position

The Librarian I position at the Alachua County Library District is an entry-level professional role responsible for maintaining library activities within a specific division. The role requires professional judgment and knowledge gained through formal education in Library or Information Science. The Librarian I will assist patrons, select materials, and may supervise subordinate staff, all while working under the guidance of a higher-level supervisor.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of common software problems.
  • Knowledge of professional principles and practices of public librarianship.
  • Knowledge of major fields of learning in social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities.
  • Knowledge of library planning, budgeting, and personnel practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and patrons.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Makerspace programming.
  • Familiarity with emerging technology for patron service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise technical, clerical, and/or paraprofessional employees.
  • Coordinate activities of subordinate employees, including determining work procedures and schedules.
  • Provide information services and guidance to library patrons in selecting and using library materials and equipment.
  • Interpret and explain library procedures and policies to patrons.
  • Provide bibliographic, reference, and reader's advisory assistance in person and through various communication methods.
  • Operate personal computers and peripherals to assist the public and perform office tasks.
  • Produce library research, reports, statistics, and proposals.
  • Assist in the preparation of Library District budgets.
  • Read, review, and select materials for the Library District.
  • Plan, schedule, and present individual program sessions and produce support materials.
  • Develop and maintain library catalogs and bibliographic databases.
  • Stay informed of current trends and professional techniques through reading and participation in professional organizations.
  • Compile lists of Library District materials according to subject or interests.
  • Plan and carry out special projects involving Library District promotion and outreach activities.
  • Ensure patron compliance with policies and procedures through effective communication.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary of $51,937.60 per year.
