The Richard Elias-Mission Library serves as a vital community hub in Tucson sitting at a meaningful geographic intersection. For many Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui community members, the library is one of the first public buildings encountered when traveling into the city from nearby tribal lands positioning the site as both a gateway and a place of belonging. The surrounding area is also home to generations of Mexican, Mexican American, Black, and African American families, whose histories, traditions, and cultural presence continue to shape the identity, vibrancy, and rhythms of daily life in the region. We are seeking a librarian with experience in age group birth through 8 year who leads with purpose and a deep commitment to serving a diverse and vibrant community. This people centered leader will empower and mentor staff, embrace change with confidence, and strive to make a lasting, positive impact. As a member of the service level programming team, the hired candidate will support and take a leadership role to engage the Mission Library community. In this role, you will be part of the library in charge team, develop and implement story time, and children’s programming as well as take part in outreach and school visits as needed. The selected individual will play a pivotal role in leading the successful opening of the new building and shaping its future. This position may be required to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.
