About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. It is the mission of the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to provide information access for the citizens, businesses, and agencies of the Commonwealth. To help the state maintain its competitive edge, the department offers comprehensive services which ensure that our clientele has access to information resources: virtual, physical, and human. As one of ten state agencies in the country to combine library, archival, and public records programs, the department is uniquely positioned to meet these needs. We are seeking a Librarian I-KDLA to provide professional library services in the areas of circulation, interlibrary loan of materials, reference, and research assistance to designated client groups for the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA). This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive professional reference and research services on a variety of subjects using complex search strategies - analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and summarizing results. Collaborate on reference questions with public library staff on occasion.
  • Develop and present workshops or trainings online and face-to-face to public library staff, state employees and KDLA staff.
  • Assist with the processing of interlibrary loan requests.
  • Assist with circulation and pull audiobooks and large print as needed.
  • Participate in selection and deselection of State Library materials.
  • Maintain records and reports related to reference and research services, training, circulation activities, and interlibrary loan requests.
