About The Position

The Librarian, Acquisitions at Owens Community College is responsible for managing the procurement of library materials, including books, audiovisual materials, eBooks, and supplies for the Toledo and Findlay campus libraries. This role also involves providing reference services, conducting information literacy instruction, and maintaining library collections. The librarian will collaborate with academic departments, supervise student workers, and ensure the effective operation of library services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, preferably in library science.
  • One year of professional experience in an academic library.
  • One year of experience with integrated, automated library software systems.
  • Demonstrated mastery of library science and information management principles.
  • Ability to assess the information needs of library users.
  • Knowledge and experience with automated library systems, particularly Innovative Interfaces, Inc. systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of online resources, database searching, and information literacy.
  • Experience in library instruction in an academic library environment.
  • Skills in using and maintaining essential library equipment such as computers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing technological environment.
  • Excellent analytical, evaluative, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in budget management, analysis, and development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchasing of books, audiovisual materials, eBooks, streaming video, and supplies for the libraries.
  • Provide reference service and circulation desk coverage.
  • Conduct general or subject-specific information literacy instruction.
  • Oversee collection development and maintenance in assigned academic subjects.
  • Market and promote library services, resources, and programs.
  • Act as a liaison with assigned academic departments for collection deployment and library services.
  • Collect and maintain statistical data on resources and usage for IPEDS requirements and in-house analysis.
  • Supervise student workers in daily tasks.
  • Stay current on new developments related to library operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
