About The Position

The Duncanville Public Library is seeking a dynamic, full-time Librarian to provide Youth and Family Services. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, creative, and proactive. This candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating engaging programs and services that inspire young patrons while supporting their parents, teachers, and caregivers. Key responsibilities include delivering story times and creating a variety of programs for children, teens, and families. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with schools, local organizations, and community partners to promote library events and outreach efforts, building lasting relationships with families and fostering lifelong engagement with the library. We are seeking an individual with a strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature, as well as a passion for promoting literacy. Candidates should have a keen interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), the humanities, and creative educational programming. Additionally, we require a commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for our multicultural community. A positive, optimistic, and supportive attitude is essential for this position.

Requirements

  • MLS (Master of Library Science) or MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) degree from an ALA-accredited program. Students currently enrolled in such a degree may be considered.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering youth programming for diverse age groups.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Creative problem-solver and confident professional with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Excellent technology skills, including experience with web-based platforms, digital resources, and STEAM education tools.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to think strategically and collaboratively.
  • Flexible schedule including nights, evenings, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver innovative classes, events, and programs including storytime, music and movement, STEAM workshops, book clubs, artistic expression, coding and more.
  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and assess summer reading programs, school break events, and other seasonal initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other library team members to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Engage in the hiring process, as well as supervising and training work teams to ensure their success.
  • Discover and pursue opportunities to provide grants, partnerships and outreach.
  • Participate in library leadership for initiative implementation.
  • Provide analytical and statistical reporting for library administration.
  • Directly support public services by assisting on the front lines whenever necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
