The Liability Adjuster will provide efficient and effective adjudication of assigned claims through timely investigation, evaluation, and negotiation. This adjuster works well under minimal supervision using company best practices. They must execute files within their authority to make appropriate decisions regarding coverage and settlement. The liability adjuster handles claims involving clear liability and liability disputes involving 1st and 3rd party claimants. This position investigates liability, evaluates and settles property damage claims and effectively negotiate claims to conclusion in a timely manner. In this role you are responsible for taking recorded statements, reviewing policies for coverage, determining liability, settling collision and property damage claims including total losses and writing Reservation of Rights and coverage denials where appropriate. The person in this role takes ownership of their personal brand, stays professional and works well individually within a dynamic team atmosphere.

  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable.
  • For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high availability for insureds and colleagues
  • Demonstrate stellar attitude & performance
  • Make timely and appropriate contacts with necessary parties and takes detailed recorded statements to determine liability
  • Write Reservation of Rights and Coverage Disclaimers when appropriate
  • Complete appropriate level of investigation to determine coverage
  • Determine exposure, establishes adequate initial reserves and makes timely adjustment to reserve(s) as required
  • Negotiate proper settlement within authority and provides recommendations for settlement and disposition of claims exceeding their authority level
  • Handle first party and third-party auto property damage losses
  • Identify subrogation potential and completes thorough referral to the Recovery Team
  • Explain and justify liability positions to both first and third parties
  • Manage rental vehicle requests and storage expenses
  • Occasionally handle property damage to fixed property
  • Effectively manage workload and tasks to keep claims current and documented appropriately
  • Occasional large Loss reporting
  • Must be able to put in extra time if/as needed
  • Maintain excellent customer service tracked through company measurement
  • Meet or exceeds individual goals to help the department reach its target
  • Make appropriate coverage and/or settlement decisions
  • Determine liability by completing thorough investigations
  • Pursue recovery as applicable
  • Consistently produce quality work product & sets timely reserves
