Requirements

  • Previous experience with leadership, event planning, and/or community engagement preferred
  • Must be available for staff training at the beginning of each semester employed (the weekend before classes start), which will be compensated
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of historically marginalized students’ experiences and needs
  • Must always carry oneself as a representative of the LGBTQ Center, a student leader, and a role model for one's communities and Ithaca College
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality with Center documents, meetings, conversations, and visitors
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Ithaca College
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to starting and during the entire period of employment

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement initiatives and events for LGBTQ+ students
  • Communicate with the LGBTQ+ student community to determine their needs and the campus climate
  • Demonstrate ability or willingness to communicate proactively with supervisors and peers.
  • Promote Center programming and participate in outreach activities to raise the visibility of the Center
  • Assist the Director and Pride Fellow with planning and implementing LGBTQ Center staple programming (e.g. Welcome Reception, Lavender Graduation, and others)
  • Collaborate with other student staff and campus partners on programming and outreach.
  • Develop informational and educational materials on LGBTQ+ topics for the campus community
  • Provide support for LGBTQ Center events
  • Greet visitors to the LGBTQ Center and actively foster a welcoming, inclusive environment
  • Provide general office support and maintenance of the Center
  • Provide peer-to-peer support and referrals for students who need resources
  • Work 6 hours a week for the LGBTQ Center, which includes weekly one-hour staff meetings and weekly half-hour supervisor meetings.
