About The Position

Institutional Mission: Nelson University exists to equip students spiritually, academically, professionally, and cross-culturally for their God-given careers and callings. Department Purpose: A department which supports the Christian culture of Nelson and provides effective safety and security services to Nelson University students, faculty, staff and guests through comprehensive protection systems, processes, procedures and technology. Major Responsibilities: · Represents the Christian culture of the University to students, employees and guests Provides protection for University persons, property, and guests. Maintains surveillance by physical patrols, video and card access of all areas of Nelson property. Responsible for crime prevention, campus patrol, radio communications, parking and traffic enforcement, investigations, follow-up, and report writing. Identifies and reports campus safety and security hazards. Must know and adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures of the Nelson Security Officer as Level II non-commissioned and Level III commissioned Officers. Possess strong sense of integrity, highly aware of surroundings, able to communicate clearly and capable of handling life-threating situations; technical skills including knowledge of firearms, familiarity with restraining devices and understanding of security technologies; physical strength, ability to remain standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to react quickly, calmly and professionally in emergency situations as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Faith, service and lifestyle that meets University expectations (See IPM sections: “Statement of Core Values,” “Doctrinal Statement,” “Christian Standards,” “Lifestyle Standard.”)
• Current Armed Licensed Level III Commissioned Security Officer with Texas Department of Public Safety (Preferred) or Law Enforcement Officer
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Level III Commissioned Officer
• Clear background check and drug screenings, pass MMPI II evaluation
• Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, administration, and students
• Possess strong sense of integrity, highly aware of surroundings, able to communicate clearly and capable of handling life-threating situations
