About The Position

The Exceptional Student Support Services/Para Professional position is designed to assist certified professional staff in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, the paraprofessional will help free certified professional employees from non-professional duties, allowing them to contribute to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development. The role involves working closely with students to reinforce learning in various subjects and assist with classroom management and record-keeping.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of college-level coursework or passing score on an approved paraprofessional exam.
  • Prior experience working with special needs children is desirable.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance card required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe and orderly classroom.
  • Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, and study hall.
  • Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
  • Construct, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.
  • Assist teacher with parent contact to foster effective parent involvement in student education.
  • Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion and achievement of IEP objectives.
  • Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team.
  • Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures for assisting students with disabilities.
  • May assist in the training of other paraprofessionals.

Benefits

  • Grade E minimum of the classified salary schedule as approved by the Governing Board.
  • 182 days per year.
  • 7.5 hours per day.
