About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Level 3 NIGHT NICU Registered Nurse to join our team! JOB SUMMARY: 1. Provide care for infants immediately after birth. 2. Oversee the care of infant patients in the NICU. 3. Troubleshoot and maintain NICU equipment. 4. Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants. 5. Educate new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety. 6. Perform tests ordered by the neonatologist or nurse practitioner and evaluate the result. Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school or nursing.
• Current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.
• Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated.
• Basic Computer Skills.
• Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to: I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, Neonatal monitoring devices, Newborn medication administration, and respiratory equipment.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to calculate drug dosages.
• Poses critical thinking skills and organization.
• Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and optimal outcome.

• Bilingual skills are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for infants immediately after birth.
• Oversee the care of infant patients in the NICU.
• Troubleshoot and maintain NICU equipment.
• Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants.
• Educate new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety.
• Perform tests ordered by the neonatologist or nurse practitioner and evaluate the result.
• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Ability to perform vital signs, initial admission, head-to-toe assessments on preterm, term, and post-term sick infants and post-partum adults.
• Able to offer family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother baby unit.
• Ability to operate a variety of equipment related to infant support and care in the NICU. Ex: chest tube set up, Umbilical line set up, assist with needle aspiration, IV maintenance etc.
• Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
• Implements a teaching plan to parents on identified learning need and evaluate effectiveness of learning (family is included as appropriate).
• Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan on an ongoing basis.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by each patient group.
• Communicates appropriately, clearly, and respectfully to other charge nurses, coworkers, supervisor, and physicians.
• Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
• Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.
• Demonstrates an ability to assist providers with procedures in the NICU and Mom baby unit.
• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and to function under stressful situations.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

• Written and electronic documentation meets current standard and policies.

• Manages and operates NICU equipment safely and correctly. Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
• Able to perform all newborn screening, blood sampling, and discharge procedures.
• Ability to perform all discharge teaching, follow up instruction to parents in detail according to policy and procedure.
• Implements consultations and referrals as needed.
• Demonstrates the ability to use Healthstream and completes assigned modules.
• Demonstrates the ability to access the Policy and Procedure Manual on the hospital intranet.
• Communicates effectively in English.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
