About The Position

IES Communications is seeking experienced Level 2 Cable Technicians to support low-voltage and data center infrastructure work at a major Microsoft data center in Goodyear, Arizona. This role requires strong technical skills, leadership ability, and the capability to perform installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems. Technicians will also assist in guiding small teams and ensuring all work meets IES quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Cable pulling, terminations, and testing (Cat5e, Cat6, Fiber)
  • Rack install/assembly and ladder rack installation
  • J‑hook installation and proper cable support
  • Understanding of color codes, cable management, and low‑voltage standards
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, cable schedules, and floor plans
  • Reliable transportation and ability to pass required screenings
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., work at heights, and perform physical labor in indoor/outdoor environments
  • Technicians must provide and be proficient with: Screwdrivers (flat & Phillips), drywall saw, level, tape measure, Snips, pliers (needle‑nose & channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, Flashlight, gloves, punchdown tools (110/66), tone set, 6/8‑position crimp tool, and common low‑voltage hand tools

  • BICSI certification

Responsibilities

  • Pull, terminate, and test Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optic cabling.
  • Install work‑area outlets, modular furniture outlets, and wall-mounted boxes.
  • Terminate CAT3/CAT5 jacks, faceplates, 110/66 blocks, and patch panels.
  • Install J‑hooks, cable trays, ladder racks, and grounding systems.
  • Build and install telecom closets, including backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
  • Perform full rack assembly, rack & stack, and labeling per IES standards.
  • Perform continuity and signal testing for horizontal and riser cabling.
  • Use volt‑ohmmeters, toners, and troubleshooting tools to identify opens, shorts, and crossed pairs.
  • Identify active data and voice circuits.
  • Lead small groups of installers and ensure workloads are completed on time.
  • Provide on‑site training and maintain adherence to safety regulations.
  • Complete all required IES documentation (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, etc.).
