The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REPRESENTED POSITION Responsibilities: Independently perform as a technician in the installation, construction, layout, fabrication, modification, assembly, repair, weld stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel, grinding, cutting, etc., of precision machined parts, components and assemblies. Perform intricate and structural welding on all metals is required, including: Tig weld aluminum and stainless steel and Mig weld mild and stainless steel. Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions to carry out written work assignments with minimal oversight. Layout, design, fit-up, bending and installation of stainless-steel tubing and piping. Clean hardware and components to the appropriate level prior to, during, and after fabrication/welding using established procedures and specifications. Independently perform as a certified technician to rework, repair, or modify existing fabrications for fit and dimensional accuracy. Perform effectively in a fast-paced job shop environment where fabrications are unique and time sensitive. Production runs are minimal. Independently perform as a certified technician to set up, adjust and operate all welding machines and shop floor equipment Work directly with engineering personnel and technicians on the installation of components, special systems, and equipment. Buildup of manufactured parts into final assemblies per print and work instructions. Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required. Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding and other work platforms. Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties. Clean hardware and components prior to, during, and after assembly using established procedures and specifications. Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance, repairs, or replacement of parts. Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically acceptable manner. Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc. Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site. Notify Supervision of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions. Maintain work area in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe condition. Perform incidental work in other classifications when necessary to accomplish work assignment/mission and can be accomplished safely. Provides day to day technical support for operations and maintenance issues as required Complete tasks on schedule and to the customer's satisfaction Interface with customers when required to meet requirements and communicate work status as required
