The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver is seeking part-time tutors for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. This role is designed for individuals with a strong background in various academic disciplines, including Business, Engineering/Computer Science, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences, ranging from entry-level to advanced levels. LEP Tutors will work under the supervision of the Tutoring Coordinator and the LEP Associate Director, providing one-on-one tutoring to students, particularly those who are neurodiverse learners. The primary goal of this position is to assist students in building confidence, independence, and essential academic skills, while also providing access to resources that will help them achieve their academic goals. Each tutor will be assigned a Lead Tutor who will serve as a mentor throughout their tenure. New tutors are required to complete an online New Tutor Orientation and the first five hours of the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Certification. The program emphasizes the importance of training and development, expecting tutors to participate in activities that maintain LEP tutoring standards and CRLA Certification status. This includes completing the online orientation, earning necessary certification hours, and attending supplemental training sessions as directed by the Tutoring Coordinator. Tutors are expected to complete at least 25 hours of tutoring during the academic year to meet certification requirements. The essential functions of the LEP Tutor include effectively tutoring students in a one-on-one environment, assisting them in becoming self-sufficient learners, collaborating with academic counselors, and maintaining accurate scheduling through the tutoring software. Tutors will also help students clarify their questions, develop critical thinking skills, and explore new learning methods. Communication with the Tutoring Coordinator and Lead Tutor is crucial for updating on student progress and any concerns that may arise. The position is non-benefited and capped at 1,000 hours per calendar year, with flexible hours based on student requests during the academic quarters.
