We are looking for an outstanding Legislative Policy Administrator. This exciting, high- profile role works closely with the Director of the agency and is responsible for independently monitoring, researching, analyzing, and testifying on various pieces of veteran related legislation. Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in public affairs, public policy, public administration, political science or a related field
  • Previous experience working with the legislative process

Responsibilities

  • Monitors all veteran-related legislation during session
  • Creates a weekly legislative update that is provided to the management team and all major veterans’ organizations in the state
  • Briefs veterans’ organizations on legislation on a regular basis and responds to any questions they may have regarding legislation
  • Represents the agency at committee or stakeholder meetings, as well as during discussions with lobbyists and legislators concerning assigned bills
  • Schedules and attends meetings to discuss the impact of legislation and policy
  • Works with the agency leadership team and stakeholders to properly handle veteran-related issues
  • Reports results and takes appropriate action
  • Communicates on an ongoing basis with members of the Arizona Legislature and Arizona’s Congressional delegation and responds to their questions regarding veteran's issues and constituent inquiries
  • Serves as the agency contact for constituent inquiries from the Governor’s Office
  • Responds to inquiries from other governmental agencies
  • Acts as the agency Ombudsman and contact for the Arizona State Ombudsman
  • Keeps the Governor's Office informed of the legislative priorities of the agency
  • Files quarterly and annual reports with the Secretary of State office on behalf of the agency
  • In coordination with the agency Public Information Officer, writes speeches for the Director and other officials within the agency; Makes presentations at the Director's request
  • Independently researches issues and their impact on bills and amendments while communicating and distributing findings appropriately and timely
  • Reads and tracks fiscal notes, amendments, and bill summaries
  • Analyzes amendments and impact on bill status
  • Maintains communication with legislative staff concerning legislative activity and sets up meetings as necessary
  • Prepares agency implementation plan, working with appropriate areas and designated representatives to ensure timely and accurate implementation of legislation
  • Summarizes status and compares to overall implementation plan calendars; Monitors and alerts appropriate person if problems are discovered
