About The Position

The Legislative and Planning Assistant (Environmental Planner 1) position at the Department of Ecology plays a crucial role in supporting the Solid Waste Management Program by tracking legislative initiatives and providing analytical support during the legislative session. This role involves coordinating and facilitating input on various solid waste issues, contributing to the program's mission of reducing waste and promoting sustainability. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for both remote and in-office work, and is designed for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in environmental planning and policy analysis.

Requirements

  • A total of six (6) years of experience and/or education in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, or public administration with an environmental emphasis.
  • Experience can be a combination of formal professional employment, education, and volunteer experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with communications and writing presentations.
  • Responding to customer or constituent questions and requests.
  • Knowledge of proper grammatical construction, sentence, and paragraph development.
  • Ability to interpret and apply agency policy and comprehend complex directives and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Track, review, and edit bill analyses in shared document space and the agency's legislative tracking platform.
  • Schedule and prepare materials for meetings, hearings, and work sessions.
  • Draft, review, and edit written communications.
  • Take notes on work group meetings, hearings, and work sessions.
  • Assist with developing, tracking, and submitting legislative reports.
  • Conduct legislative research, analyze and summarize legislation.
  • Assist with program planning duties, including tracking, designing, and facilitating input processes.
