About The Position

The Legislative and Media Liaison - Public Service Coordinator II is a senior-level position responsible for performing professional liaison work and external communication for the Department of Economic and Community Development. This role involves extensive knowledge and experience in legislative affairs, public policy, communication, and public relations, working under the general direction of the Commissioner. The position requires representing the department to legislative bodies, maintaining relationships with stakeholders, conducting research and analysis of legislation, and facilitating media communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
  • Four years of directly related training, education, and/or professional experience in public/business administration.
  • Experience in policy development, analysis, implementation, and evaluation of organizational programs.

  • Ability to create rapport with diverse demographics.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with legislative bodies to promote public policy goals.
  • Represents DECD on legislative matters before legislative bodies as directed.
  • Gathers information to guide parties toward mutual agreement and cooperation.
  • Ensures agency and stakeholder input is available for decision-making and planning processes.
  • Solicits or prepares proposed legislation and communicates for or against prospective legislation.
  • Tracks and researches newly introduced laws and advises DECD leadership on potential impacts.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Fiscal and Program Review on fiscal impact.
  • Handles legislative communications and coordinates planning and implementation efforts.
  • Promotes or creates an intended public image for the department.
  • Responds to media requests for information or designates an appropriate spokesperson.
  • Writes or selects material for release to the media or external parties.
  • Plans or directs the development of communication programs to maintain favorable perceptions of the agency.
  • Studies agency objectives to develop public relations strategies that influence public opinion.
  • Coaches agency representatives in effective communication with various stakeholders.
  • Updates and maintains content on the DECD website as needed.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Governor's Office and Commissioner.
