About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the principal Legislative Affairs Specialist for Air University. The incumbent provides legislative policy advice, guidance, and recommendations on all Congressional issues affecting Air Force air, space, and cyberspace training, education, and force development, directly to the AU Commander.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship Required.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Experience working in the office of a United States Senator or Representative is highly desired.
• One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent.

• Comprehensive knowledge of governmental affairs and legislative affairs at local, state, and federal levels.
• Extensive knowledge of protocol and procedures for dealing with executive and legislative branch principles.
• Knowledge of the workings and procedures of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and directs all congressional activities.
• Serves as the focal point for legislative activities of interest to AU and provides legislative updates to AU command staff and subordinate organizations.
• Serves as legislative adviser to AU Commander, advising on plans, policy, or procedure issues associated with constituent concerns.
• Directs legislative correspondence and serves as the senior AU representative for requests for information from various government officials and agencies.
• Oversees Congressional and local governmental official visits, responsible for all aspects of congressional visits/hearings.
