About The Position

Johnson County Government, in Olathe, Kansas, is actively recruiting for a Legal Systems Support Specialist. We are one of the nation’s premier counties, providing comprehensive services to its citizens in its role as a leading organization in the Kansas City metropolitan area. We prefer applicants with governmental experience and an aspiration for public service. The Legal Systems Support Specialist will play a key role in advancing the department’s use of technology by implementing, customizing, and maintaining legal software platforms such as HighQ for matter management, document discovery, and records requests. This position will design and automate workflows to improve efficiency across the department’s operations, develop and document procedures for all legal technology systems, and provide training and support to ensure consistent, effective use. This position will remain open until filled. This is a temporary position anticipated to last at least one year from the date of hire, with the potential to be extended for up to two years .

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required.
  • Valid driver's license and knowledge or experience in a legal office and familiarity with legal documents are processes also required.
  • Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.
  • All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized knowledge or experience with legal technology such as HighQ Matter Management, document management, or contract management systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, implement and customize legal technology, including software platforms for matter management (HighQ), document discovery, and records requests.
  • Design, streamline, and automate legal workflows, including mapping, building, and revising business rules, to help maximize efficiency related to all aspects of the Legal Department's service delivery, including contract drafting and review, legal opinions, legislation, regulations, and litigation.
  • Assist with organizing, strategizing, and documenting upcoming changes in software platforms and related processes for the department.
  • Create and update internal procedures for all software platforms in the Legal Department.
  • Provide training and documentation for all internal and external users of the matter management platform (HighQ), and other legal technology as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Department of Technology and Innovation (DTI) for any legal technology.
