About The Position

This summer 2025 legal internship position reporting to a senior level member of Lincoln Financial's Legal team, the individual will assist in analyzing state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and compliance materials with a focus on identifying and resolving relevant legal and regulatory issues applicable to Lincoln and its various business lines (including life insurance, annuities, retirement plan services, group protection, and mutual funds). Under the supervision of lawyers in the department, the individual will conduct research assignments, prepare legal memoranda, analyze documents, policies, procedures, and compliance materials. The individual will have the opportunity to work directly with various lawyers throughout the legal department, as well as compliance professionals and internal clients in Lincoln's various business units. The individual will have the opportunity to interact with and present to senior business and legal leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Current law student having completed at least one year of law school
  • Must have effective communication, analytical, and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

Responsibilities

  • Research federal and state laws and regulations and rules of industry self-regulatory organizations to determine applicability and risk to operational aspects of the company and its products and services.
  • Research laws and regulations applicable to insurance companies, broker-dealers, investment advisers and mutual funds.
  • Consult with various business groups and/or project teams.
  • Consult with internal associates and clients regarding legal and compliance matters.
  • Assist with investigating and resolving legal and compliance issues.
  • Review upcoming and enacted legislation that could affect the company's various businesses.
  • Perform research projects affecting all areas of the business.
  • Prepare legal memoranda.
  • Perform compliance related functions.
