We are looking for a Research Mentor to support high-achieving pre-law students through the development and completion of original research projects across law, legal studies, public policy, political science, and related disciplines. If you hold a JD and/or PhD and are passionate about mentorship, this role is an excellent fit. This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contract role that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Requirements

  • JD and/or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., law, legal studies, public policy, political science, or related disciplines)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting academic or legal research
  • Strong background in research design, data analysis, and academic writing
  • Experience mentoring students or trainees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills
  • A passion for mentorship and student development

Responsibilities

  • Mentor undergraduate students through the full research process, from topic selection and study design to execution and final deliverables
  • Guide students in developing feasible, high-quality research questions aligned with their academic and career goals
  • Provide structured feedback on research plans, data interpretation, and written research drafts
  • Help students understand research standards and discipline-specific expectations
  • Support students pursuing outcomes such as academic papers, posters, or journal submissions, depending on program scope
  • Track progress against defined milestones and timelines to ensure consistent forward momentum
