About The Position

Under the direction of the General Counsel and Staff Attorneys, the intern will complete research and document drafting projects on a variety of Indian Law and other legal issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Interest in and/or familiarity with Federal Indian law.
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework at an ABA accredited law school required.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurability under the Tribal vehicle/equipment insurance plan is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon favorable outcome of a criminal background check.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon passing the pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to pass a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and draft briefing memos on legal issues as directed.
  • Conduct research and provide draft versions of revised or new law and order code sections under supervision of staff attorneys.
  • Assist in preparing documents including legal pleadings, contracts and forms.
  • Assist in the editing and revision of policies, procedures and protocols under supervision of staff attorneys.
  • Assist in the maintenance of contract databases, electronic and paper files, and accurate tracking of workload statistics.
  • Attend court hearings and assist staff attorneys and paralegals as requested.
