About The Position

The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Bureau of Labor Law sets and enforces the prevailing and living wage, and benefit rates for workers, laborers, and mechanics employed on New York City Public Work projects as well as building service employees on City contracts and certain properties that receive tax exemptions, in accordance with its mandate under state law. The goal of the Worker’s Rights Bureau is to build upon the work that the BLL already does to combat wage theft to expand worker’s rights and enforcement through legislation, policy, procurement, and corporate shareholder engagement initiatives, while strengthening the office’s outreach strategies to educate New Yorkers on their labor rights. The intern will work with the Legal Unit.

Requirements

• Matriculation at an accredited Law School.
• Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college.
• Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Law degree program for the Fall 2026 semester.
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Bureau of Labor Law prevailing wage enforcement, including conducting legal research on labor law issues.
• Assist with preparing legal documents, and interviewing workers.
• Perform other duties and assignments as may be required
