About The Position

PetIQ’s Legal Department is seeking a current 1L law student (rising 2L) for a Summer Legal Intern position. The intern will work alongside the in-house legal team and cross-functional partners to support a wide range of matters, including commercial contracting, marketing and advertising review, regulatory and compliance support, privacy, employment, intellectual property, litigation, and general corporate work. This role is designed to provide practical exposure to how an in-house legal team helps drive business objectives while managing legal risk.

Requirements

  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgment handling confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort learning new systems.
  • Current 1L at an ABA-accredited law school (rising 2L by the start of the internship).

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in in-house practice and business-oriented legal counseling.
  • Coursework or interest in any of: Contracts, Torts, Intellectual Property, Employment Law, Privacy.
  • Familiarity with Westlaw.

Responsibilities

  • Legal research & writing: Research legal issues and draft concise memos and summaries on topics such as state and federal data privacy laws, state or federal veterinary-related rules, and more.
  • Contract support: Assist with review, redlining, and summarizing agreements under attorney supervision.
  • Marketing & promotional review: Support review of marketing, promotional, and social media materials for legal risk (claims substantiation, endorsements/testimonials, sweepstakes/contests, pricing, and brand use) in partnership with marketing and compliance stakeholders.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Participate in meetings with business partners (e.g., Retail, Services Operations, Product, Marketing, HR, Finance) to learn how legal guidance is delivered in a business environment.
  • Intellectual Property: Review existing IP and strategize with business partners on how to best utilize existing IP.
  • Special Litigation Tracking Project: Complete a capstone project in which intern will create a competitor litigation dashboard, comparing competitor litigation to PetIQ’s, to provide insights on legal risks and strengths to the business.
