Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Membership in good standing in at least one State bar.
  • 0-5 years of law firm or in-house legal department experience required
  • Knowledge of contracts law and strong contract drafting skills.
  • Ability to provide sound and practical legal advice, and experience with balancing legal risk with business objectives
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving abilities and commercial negotiation skills, including creative conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to take manage a high volume of matters at any given time, work well under pressure, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments, and effectively manage competing deadlines
  • Ability to analyze complex contracts and legal issues and propose creative and practical solutions, even in ambiguous situations
  • Capable of interacting with, and establishing the respect and confidence of, business partners
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well independently and efficiently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide timely and effective legal and business advice and support at all organizational levels
  • Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail
  • Strategic planning skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and counsel to business clients on wide array of business and contractual issues while coordinating with other legal team members and stakeholders
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and work closely with business partners on various agreements in support of strategic initiatives, including software license agreements, service agreements, purchase agreements, and other commercial agreements
  • Provide general legal support, including in the areas of commercial disputes, transaction structuring and strategy, and other legal issues
  • Advise executive management and business clients regarding proactive compliance with all requirements in the area of transactional contracts
  • Assist with compliance and regulatory reporting in identified practice area(s)
  • Partner with business clients at all levels to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Develop creative approaches to managing legal risks and resolving disputes
  • Develop and manage policies and procedures regarding contracts and commercial relationships, including development of appropriate form documents and clauses
  • Identify and implement growth strategies and process improvements
  • May be responsible for the management, coaching and development of paralegal team members
  • Represent Academy in negotiations, hearings, and other forums
  • Develop strong partnership with leadership, including senior management from other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
  • May be responsible for managing outside legal counsel
  • Operate within constraints of the financial budget for assigned practice area(s) and assist with annual budget submissions
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures, and safety rules
  • Identify and develop projects spanning other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
  • Responsibilities may change; Team Members may be required to perform other duties as assigned
