About The Position

The Legal Assistant position is a full-time role located in Corporate Downtown, Birmingham, AL. The primary responsibilities include providing administrative support to the Staff Attorney and General Counsel, maintaining legal records, processing bankruptcy claims, and assisting Credit Union employees and members with legal inquiries. The role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • One to three years of similar or related experience.
  • A two-year college degree, or completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work with multiple priorities necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to enhance knowledge base, technical skills, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and adapt to shifting objectives.
  • Ability to analyze data and derive facts.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to learn various internal and external programs and/or applications required to complete job functions and responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Contacts courts, trustees, and attorneys and maintains records of bankruptcy, garnishments, and other legal files.
  • Lends administrative support to the Staff Attorney and General Counsel in daily and routine tasks, including telephone support, paperwork processing, and records storage.
  • Prepares files and establishes time frames for charge-off and administration.
  • Processes bankruptcy claims and other legal files and establishes time lines for timely filings.
  • Assists Credit Union employees and Members with Power of Attorney and Deceased Account Inquiries.
  • Lends support to the Vendor Due Diligence Program in assigned tasks.
  • Performs research as directed.
  • Collects and administers all garnishments, levies or other legal processes.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
