Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing clerical support in a legal environment
  • Proficient in typing at a fast and efficient pace
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains digital and paper case files, for use by an attorney or paralegal for presentation in court; prepares a variety of moderately complex though standard legal forms utilizing previously prescribed, clearly identified data, e.g. case filings, writs, motions, briefs, petitions, opinions and appeals, some of which require a limited level of compilation and structural word-processing formatting; reviews files and procures necessary supporting documents or reports, monitors appropriate court dockets to insure timely completion of affected case files and enters dates and status changes in applicable databases; produces subpoenas, writs, and other requests in a timely manner; downloads, processes and produces discovery, makes copies of supporting documents and media upon request.
  • Performs administrative duties in support of the office, e.g. types standard form correspondence or edits and finalizes correspondence from rough draft. Pulls case files, locates digital files and documents and distributes to applicable attorneys and paralegals to assist in the preparation for hearings. May perform redaction and editing of documents and media for presentation in court. Produces and compiles discovery files, scans, reviews for quality and classifies digital documents and information. Responsible for updating and maintaining electronic and existing paper files and information in all corresponding data bases, paper files and digital locations including the ACTION, e-Discovery, Criminal e-Filing and archiving programs.
  • Gauges workflow of assignments to ensure the quality of timeliness of the work product. Receives and responds to telephone calls/visitors applicable to the unit; provides routine factual/system procedural information relevant to level of authority; makes referrals and routes calls or takes messages as necessary. Receives and distributes unit mail to assigned Deputy District Attorneys. Provides coverage for other support staff as office needs dictate, including administrative, paralegal and reception areas. Performs tasks as assigned in support of case preparation, special administrative projects, research and statistical compilation.
