The Legal Assistant position is located in our downtown Chicago office and is a hybrid position after successfully achieving competency in the role. Summary The Legal Assistant for the Workers Compensation team is dedicated to the successful resolution of the caseload for the practice area. The Legal Assistant supports the mission and goals of Disparti Law Group by providing exceptional service to clients, vendors and to internal customers. The Legal Assistant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of case tasks to maximize case value and to meet time-on-desk deadlines.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of benefit entitlement under the Workers' Compensation Act, including TTD, Medica, and Settlement
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Excellent attendance and work ethic
  • High attention to detail; highly organized
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Quick to learn; able to work with minimal supervision
  • High school graduate or equivalent, some college required
  • Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Previous workers compensation case management experience required

Nice To Haves

  • bilingual (Spanish) a plus
  • Legal case management database experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to vendors via email, telephone, in person or by other means.
  • Prepare legal documents and demand letters for submission to insurance companies or opposing counsel.
  • Draft motions and subpoenas; file claims in CompFile.
  • Print medical bills, records and other documents as required by Pre-Litigation attorneys.
  • Resolve liens and medical bills with providers, insurance companies and other providers.
  • Review case files to ensure all tasks are up to date; flag attorneys/Case Management Leader of discrepancies, as needed.
  • Disburse settlement checks to clients, as needed.
  • Scan, upload and add mail and faxes to case management database. Distribute correspondence, as required, to attorneys and team members.
  • Provide support to attorneys, administrative supervisor and other office team members.
  • Special projects as assigned.
