Purpose A Legal Assistant assists and provides a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in the firm’s practice of representing financial institutions in bankruptcy, collections, foreclosure, litigation, and residential real estate or mortgage law.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • At least 3 years experience working as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal
  • Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent research, analytical, critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certificate a plus but not required.
  • Prefer knowledge of multi-state process of service in a judicial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting attorneys in the representation of clients in collections litigation or bankruptcy proceedings including, but not limited to, the following duties:
  • Perform legal, factual and records research.
  • Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, codes, legal articles or other pertinent materials.
  • Organize, analyze and cross-check/validate information.
  • Prepare written reports.
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, briefs, motions and agreements.
  • File legal documents with various courts.
  • Prepare correspondence.
  • Proof legal forms and documents for accuracy.
  • Organize and track case files.
  • Monitor and handle judgment related tasks for the caseload assigned
