About The Position

Pender & Coward, P.C. seeks a proactive, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support attorneys with estate planning and estate administration matters, as well as corporate transactional work. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced law firm environment. Prior experience supporting attorneys is preferred. Key Responsibilities Estate Planning o Draft, format, and finalize wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and related documents o Manage client intake, engagement letters, and scheduling o Coordinate document execution, notarization, and witness arrangements o Maintain organized files, document management, and version control Estate Administration o Assist with probate filings, inventories, and accounting o Coordinate with courts, personal representatives, beneficiaries, and financial institutions o Track deadlines, asset information, and required filings Corporate Transactions o Assist with entity formations, foreign qualifications, and annual registrations o Prepare organizational documents, consents, minutes, and resolutions o Support due diligence, signature packet preparation, and closing binders o Maintain corporate records and cap tables as directed General o Heavy document production, proofreading, and formatting o Calendar and deadline management; coordinate meetings and closings o Time entry assistance, expense reports, and billing support o Client communication with professionalism and discretion o Collaborate closely with attorneys and other firm staff Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Previous law firm experience supporting attorneys (estate planning/administration and/or corporate a plus) Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat/PDF management Familiarity with legal document management and e-filing; experience with practice or billing software a plus Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and formatting Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines Professional communication skills with clients, courts, and third parties Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Complete benefit package including 401(k), Paid Time Off and Holiday Pay Work Environment Full-time, on-site position in Virginia Beach, VA Collaborative, team-oriented law firm setting

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous law firm experience supporting attorneys (estate planning/administration and/or corporate a plus)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat/PDF management
  • Familiarity with legal document management and e-filing; experience with practice or billing software a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and formatting
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Professional communication skills with clients, courts, and third parties
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
