Position Description The Anoka County Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for Legal Assistant in our Criminal Division. This division is responsible for prosecuting adults and certified juveniles charged with felony crimes and designated misdemeanors and gross misdemeanor crimes occurring within the boundaries of Anoka County. Legal Assistants are essential to the proper functioning of the Attorney’s Office by providing administrative and technical legal support on assigned caseloads. Legal Assistants also perform document review and revision as well as generate and file documents with the court or other agencies. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. Interviews will take place April 2nd and 3rd for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma and at least 2 years of job-related experience
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Business, Paralegal Studies or related field
  • Possess a Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program
  • Experience drafting, cite-checking, and correcting legal briefs
  • Experience managing medium to large-scale document productions
  • Knowledge and competency with case management software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform secretarial and administrative support to attorneys and paralegals.
  • Prepare legal documents to include, but not limited to s, briefs, motions, notices, subpoenas, complaints and general correspondence.
  • Efficiently utilize case management and electronic case filing systems and other legal reference software.
  • Assist attorneys with documents and file management related to hearings and trial preparation.
  • Summarize depositions, trial transcripts and exhibits.
  • Proofread legal documents.
