The Legal Assistant will handle the daily duties of the Legal Department, supporting the Assistant General Counsel and other members with legal work, communications, and filings as assigned. The role includes assisting with incoming legal processes, routing served documents to the correct place, and developing appropriate responses. The Legal Assistant will act as a liaison with outside counsel regarding the assignment of legal matters and assist with discovery in cases where the bank is a party. Researching information to respond to queries directed to the Legal Department is also a key responsibility. The ideal candidate will work independently, take on research tasks, and answer policy and procedures questions that may arise from various lines of business or branches. Additionally, the candidate will assist with managing notifications and communications with insurers regarding bank-involved cases, along with other projects as assigned.

  • Support Assistant General Counsel and other members of the Legal Department with legal work, communications, and filings.
  • Assist with incoming legal processes, including served documents, and route them to the correct place.
  • Develop responses to legal inquiries as appropriate.
  • Act as a liaison with outside counsel regarding the assignment of legal matters.
  • Assist with discovery in cases where the bank is a party.
  • Research information to respond to queries directed to the Legal Department.
  • Manage notifications and communications with insurers regarding bank-involved cases.
  • Take on other projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal experience preferred; ongoing training for paralegal certificate will be considered if in conjunction with 2 or more years of experience working with legal documents/legal processes.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a law firm, in-house legal department, or with legal documents in another environment.
  • Experience and comfort with technology and learning new systems.
  • Ability to meet time deadlines and work independently under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
