About The Position

The Legal Analyst position at the City of Boise involves performing technical legal casework in support of criminal law attorneys. The role requires handling a high volume of criminal cases, preparing legal documents, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies. The Legal Analyst will work under general supervision and is responsible for ensuring that all necessary materials are obtained for various hearings, responding to inquiries from the public and law enforcement, and providing clerical support.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in paralegal studies, criminal justice, business administration, public administration, or related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in public administration or a professional law office.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 wpm and interpret legal documents.
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and analyze statistical data.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage high-volume caseloads.
  • Effective communication skills in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of legal terminology, forms, and procedures.
  • Understanding of legal/litigation procedures and citation rules.
  • Familiarity with the discovery process and trial preparation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical legal casework in support of criminal law attorneys.
  • Handle a high volume of criminal cases collaboratively with a team.
  • Prepare cases and gather data needed for various hearings.
  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, and discoveries.
  • Perform data entry and manage case files.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to obtain necessary materials.
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public and law enforcement.
  • Create new criminal case files and process incoming legal documents.
  • Review police reports and citations for accuracy.
  • Organize court documents electronically for assigned attorneys.
  • Research and obtain necessary information for cases.
  • Construct discovery packets and track criminal cases through the adjudication process.
  • Monitor defendants' probation status and ensure compliance.
  • Provide research and technical assistance to attorneys.
  • Organize attorney court schedules and respond to information requests.
  • Provide clerical support by handling phone calls and emails.
