About The Position

The Legal Administrative Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the County Attorney and other legal staff by managing various administrative tasks related to legal proceedings. This position requires independent judgment and prioritization skills to handle a variety of legal documents and assist in the coordination of legal actions, while also providing support to victims in an advocate role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and Legal Secretary Diploma, OR Legal Administrative Assistant AAS Degree.
  • Two years of paid full-time work experience in the legal field as a legal secretary or legal administrative assistant.
  • Typing skills and advanced computer skills.
  • Machine transcription skills and bookkeeping skills.
  • Ability to deal with crises calmly and possess strong receptionist skills.
  • Ability to use common sense in various situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes and criminal and civil procedure.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota offense coding.
  • Task management and organizational skills.
  • Fast and accurate typing skills.
  • Knowledge of business arithmetic, spelling, business English, and legal terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the County Attorney and other office staff in completing mandated duties.
  • Prepare legal documents for criminal and civil actions including various types of legal cases.
  • Master schedule of actions and manage time-line deadlines.
  • Notify witnesses and victims regarding legal proceedings.
  • Work with other agencies and employees to obtain necessary information.
  • Advise and assist other departments and the public regarding legal procedures.
  • Act as receptionist and assist the public with inquiries.
  • Perform tasks under supervision and meet time-line deadlines.
  • Coordinate information and documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain financial records and assist in financial documentation.
  • Support victims by providing emotional support and procedural explanations.
