SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Legacy Telephone Technician to support an opportunity at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), Washington, DC. The Legacy Telephone Technician provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 maintenance and operational support for legacy telephony systems and copper infrastructure. This position supports Government voice engineering efforts by maintaining, troubleshooting, documenting, and improving ISDN, POTS, and related copper-based telecommunications systems while ensuring compliance with USAF standards and local business practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with Nortel MSL 100 (Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for analog and digital single/multi-line phones), ISDN, POTS, and VoIP systems.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting copper-based telephony infrastructure.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance (if applicable).
  • Strong documentation and technical diagramming skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 maintenance and operational support for telephony systems.
  • Survey, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and audit physical connections utilized for telephony systems; ensure all tickets are completed in accordance with defined customer priority levels and within three (3) business days of assignment.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot telephony devices.
  • Maintain or create documentation of existing copper circuits including Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), alarm, fax, elevator, and other systems.
  • Work in-house with the Government Voice Engineer to maintain the copper infrastructure.
  • Maintain ISDN/POTS telephony architecture and supporting diagrams.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the Government engineer.
  • Trace, label, and maintain existing copper lines; coordinate with commercial service providers as needed.
  • Terminate cable on the main distribution frame (MDF) as required.
  • Create and update maintenance cutsheets to include phone numbers, copper cable, copper pair information, and physical location on base.
  • Report and log deteriorating conditions of copper cabling to the JBAB CFP and/or GSO as discovered.
  • Inform the Government when infrastructure saturation reaches 70%.
  • Develop plans to improve base infrastructure and prevent shortfalls.
  • Perform Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Maintenance Task Orders (MTOs), and other audits to ensure Squadron compliance with USAF standards and 794th Business Practices.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on Cable Distribution Networks (CDNs), including reporting observed issues using local work cards in accordance with TO 00-5-1, Air Force Technical Order System; provide results/findings via email no later than the 5th day of each month.
  • Ensure all telephony interfaces with emergency service location information systems, such as Configuration Accounting Information Retrieval System (CAIRS), are up to date with correct device location details.
  • Assist in identifying legacy devices and services; provide solutions and migration strategies to transition analog and legacy digital services to IP-based solutions in accordance with (IAW) SAF/CN directives.
  • Submit a Weekly Activity Report (WAR) and a monthly report of work completed to the Government Support Office (GSO).
