Legacy Giving Coordinator

KQEDSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

At a time when philanthropic support of independent journalism and local storytelling are more vital than ever, KQED, a leading public-media provider in the San Francisco Bay Area, is launching a major campaign to secure our future. We are looking for a Legacy-Giving Coordinator to be the operational backbone of our rapidly growing legacy-giving program. In this role, you aren’t just managing data — you are honoring the lifelong commitment of our most dedicated supporters. Reporting to the Senior Director of Legacy Giving and Endowment, you will work with our Finance, Development Operations, and frontline-fundraising teams to ensure that every legacy-giving inquiry and gift is tracked with precision, and every donor and prospective donor is thanked with warmth, helping to continue building a sustainable foundation for public media in the Bay Area. You will produce acknowledgements, endowment reporting, and donor reports, and will work on stewardship and cultivation events, donor communications including multi-recipient emails, donor testimonial video and radio and other legacy-giving promotions, and more. This is a full-time, temporary position supporting KQED's campaign, through December 31, 2029.

Requirements

  • Has 3–5 years in a development department or non-profit environment.
  • Has a solid understanding of general fundraising principles, including the "moves management" cycle, and how legacy giving fits into an organization’s overall fundraising philosophy.
  • Is a natural organizer who can manage multiple deadlines without breaking a sweat.
  • Has exceptional computer skills and experience navigating complex CRM databases (ROI, Salesforce, or similar).
  • Has strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive donor information with discretion and empathy. Works easily with colleagues and has a sense of humor.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the pipeline: Track legacy-giving leads and legacy-gift commitments, and manage data within KQED’s database to ensure accurate "moves management" and donor history.
  • Gift processing: Coordinate with the Finance and Development Operations teams to process bequest and other legacy-gift notifications and distributions, and testamentary IRA and other transfer-on-death-gift receivables.
  • Other operational duties: Handle the end-to-end administrative aspects of the legacy-giving program, from reviewing, scanning, and filing estate correspondence to assisting with our work with external legal counsel and donors’ financial-account custodians in obtaining and processing gift revenue. Pull reports from our CRM that track fundraising “moves” and other data, and coordinate with the Operations team to update and maintain KQED’s legacy-giving dashboard. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Recognition: Manage donor-recognition listings, event invitations and responses, and electronic and other communications for the Legacy Society.
  • Marketing and communications: Assist in producing donor newsletters and other communications, gathering testimonials, and executing marketing initiatives that inspire others to give. As an example, oversee our email communications process by building lists in Engaging Networks for legacy-giving communications and marketing.
  • Events: Provide logistical support for stewardship and cultivation events that bring our community together.
  • Insights: Gather data for Board presentations, Investment Committee meetings, and campaign updates.
  • Briefings: Prepare high-level meeting briefings for our legacy-giving fundraising team and document outcomes in our CRM.
  • Coordination: Maintain updates to the master Development Department calendar, including tracking proposal deadlines and committee cycles.
