About The Position

The Department of Music at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking applicants for an academic year (9-month) instructional academic faculty position as a Lecturer with the start date of August 2026. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in Music History. Come join a community of teacher/scholars committed to student success. Under general supervision of the department chair, successful candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, providing regular and substantive feedback on student work, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean. The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CASSH) is a vibrant academic community bringing together the strengths of the liberal arts, innovative interdisciplinary programs, and the creative energy of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. The College actively supports the university’s General Education Program and offers a robust number of undergraduate degrees and three graduate programs. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a field appropriate to the needs of the department, or significant progress toward a doctorate degree, or, in rare circumstances, post-baccalaureate certification or licensure, or a baccalaureate plus experience, can be established as appropriate qualifications for the teaching position.
  • Evidence of the ability to be an effective instructor.
  • Evidence of clear and effective communication skills.
  • Evidence of teaching Music History at the undergraduate level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of teaching in higher education.
  • Evidence of ability to teach Music Appreciation and World Music.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
