About The Position

The Reynolds School of Journalism, honored with national awards in diversity and curricular innovation, is seeking a passionate and innovative Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor of Sports Media to help shape the future of sports storytelling. This position offers a unique opportunity to teach and mentor students who are eager to explore the dynamic world of sports journalism, broadcasting, and digital media. We are looking for an experienced sports media professional with a deep understanding of the evolving landscape. Candidates should have a demonstrated specialty in one or two sports media related key areas, such as social media strategy, podcasting, eSports, play-by-play broadcasting, sports photography, immersive digital storytelling, and more. Particularly, we seek an individual who will inspire students through teaching and creative work in sports media while contributing to the school’s forward-thinking and interdisciplinary initiatives. This position will teach courses that prepare students to report, write, edit, and produce compelling sports content across multiple platforms. The lecturer will guide students in understanding the ethical, cultural, and technological dimensions of sports media and communication, while encouraging creativity and critical thinking. The role will also involve helping to develop a curriculum that reflects current industry trends, mentoring and advising students in their academic and professional journeys, and collaborating with faculty, student media organizations, and athletics departments. This position is a nine-month, non-tenure track, academic year appointment, available at the rank of Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor.

Requirements

  • For Lecturer II: Master's degree and substantial professional sports media experience.
  • For Teaching Assistant Professor: PhD and substantial professional sports media experience.
