About The Position

Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. The Department of Spanish and Latin American Cultures at Barnard College seeks a full-time Lecturer with multi-year renewal contingent on performance, to begin July 2026. Lecturers are reviewed in their third year of full-time service, with the possibility for reappointment and consideration for promotion to Senior Lecturer in the seventh year; subsequent reviews typically occur on a seven-year cycle. The teaching for this position is focused on first- and second-year language courses, with the possibility of developing third-year and advanced language-through-content courses incorporating some areas of Spanish and Latin American Cultural Studies. The teaching load is 3+3 course per year. Non-teaching duties include advising students and participating in service at the departmental and college levels.

Requirements

  • PhD or Masters Degree with focus on Teaching Spanish as a Second or Foreign Language
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies such as language through content, task/project-based approach, and cognitive grammar
