Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a leading national research university and the state of New Jersey's preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. The course, Knowledge and Power: Issues in Women's Leadership, is a foundational 3.0 credit Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies course required of all new students at Douglass Residential College, New Brunswick. This course helps to define the College's community, explore resources, and build knowledge in women's, gender, and sexuality studies. The course is offered in 27 sections across the fall and spring semesters. Instructors are an important part of the Douglass educational community and will work with a Course Director and participate in collective course planning and inclusive pedagogy workshops. The course is focused on fostering respectful engagement and intentional conversations about race, gender, sexuality, ability, and class among new first-year and transfer students enrolled in Douglass. The course meets twice a week, each session lasting 80 minutes, during the semester.

  • Teach one section of 3.0 credit undergraduate course Knowledge and Power: Issues in Women's Leadership.
  • Hold class meetings at all course times/dates.
  • Attend instructor training and required instructor meetings and workshops.
  • Meet with and advise the assigned peer mentor as needed.
  • Meet with students enrolled in the course as needed and keep regular office hour availability.
  • Adhere to course, department, college, and university procedures and policies.
  • Master's degree and expertise in Women's and Gender Studies or closely related field preferred.
  • Commitment to or experience in Women's and Gender Studies and the status of women and gender diverse.
  • Demonstrated pedagogical experience in teaching practices dedicated to cultural exchange, community-building, equity and inclusion, and social justice in an increasingly complex and diverse world.
  • Must have three years of experience with effective teaching, mentoring, community work, or commensurate educational engagement and activities.
