JOB DESCRIPTION: Pomona College is seeking a lecturer to teach two musicianship course sections in the Music Department during fall and spring of the 2026-27 academic year. Candidates should hold an advanced degree in music. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years’ relevant teaching experience. The candidate should be committed to working in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. The teaching load consists of two musicianship labs, each of which meets twice a week and runs as part of a music theory course taught by a full-time faculty member. Topics include ear training, singing, dictation, sightreading, and keyboard skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability or potential to work collaboratively and to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds—utilizing pedagogical practices that are rigorous, inclusive, and which promote academic equity.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in music
  • Commitment to working in an undergraduate liberal arts environment
  • Employment is contingent upon providing proof of the legal right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 for the duration of the contract, August 1, 2026 until December 30, 2026.
  • Instruction begins on Monday, August 31, 2026.
  • After submitting proof of work authorization and completing onboarding, lecturers are expected to prepare for their classes and attend the New Faculty Orientation, held in the weeks before classes start.
