Lecturer in First-Year Writing

Barnard CollegeNew York City, NY
1d$88,000 - $94,000

About The Position

The First-Year Writing Program (FYW) at Barnard College seeks a full-time Lecturer in FYW and FYW Workshop, to start July 1, 2026. Lecturers are continuing faculty typically reviewed in their third year of full-time service, with the possibility for multi-year renewal contingent on performance. Consideration for promotion to Senior Lecturer typically occurs in the seventh year. Subsequent reviews typically occur on a seven-year cycle. FYW and FYW Workshop (FYWW) teach the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to first-year Barnard students and prepare them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines. FYWW is designed for students, many of them First-Generation, Low Income (FGLI), who benefit from extra support in critical reading and academic writing. The Lecturer will teach a 3/3 course load in FYWW, FYW, and First-Year Seminar (FYS) and FYS Workshop (the second half of Barnard’s required first-year academic programs). The Lecturer will work closely with the Director and Associate Director of FYW on syllabus and program development in FYWW, and on expanding resources across the college for students who need extra academic support. Lecturers also advise students, serve on College committees, and may be asked to assist in program administration.
