The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks applications for a Lecturer in Engineering Design with a focus on materials science and engineering, with an expected start date of July 1, 2026. The full-time position is for three years, with the second two years contingent on a satisfactory performance review during the first year. Responsibilities may include the following: Co-teaching the fall semester of the Master's in Design Engineering (MDE) Studio course (STU 1231) annually. The MDE program is a collaborative degree program run jointly by SEAS and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. It is geared towards understanding complex societal grand challenges and building prototypical solutions that can be assessed for impact. The lecturer needs to be comfortable with a highly collaborative, interactive mode of teaching. Studio is both a space as well as a pedagogical setting which can best be described as project based, highly interdisciplinary, and fluid. Co-teaching at least one of the following courses: Spring semester of the Studio course (STU 1232) One or both semesters of the Independent Design Engineering Project (IDEP) course (ADV 9381 or ADV 9382) Serving as Academic Advisor to a limited number of MDE students. If this position isn't co-teaching ADV 9381 and/or 9382, a limited number of IDEP advisees is also expected. Participating in the MDE admissions process, including reviewing applications, representing decisions in a full admissions committee meeting, and attending a new-admit open house event.
