About The Position

The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is seeking a full-time Lecturer or Doctoral Lecturer in Biology to begin in Fall 2025. This position involves teaching a variety of biology courses for undergraduate majors and minors, ranging from entry-level classes to capstone seminars. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong background in science education and a proven track record of effective teaching at the college level, with a minimum of three years of experience required. Positive teaching evaluations are essential, and candidates should demonstrate expertise in biology education. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will serve as an advisor and mentor to students within the biology majors. The role is tenure-bearing, with a pathway to a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) after four years of successful reappointments. The teaching load consists of eight classes per year, alongside significant service contributions to the department. Notably, there is no requirement for research, publication, or other scholarly activities, allowing the lecturer to focus primarily on teaching and student engagement. The Department of Sciences is recognized for its vibrant community and is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the field of forensic science. Faculty members are known for their diverse expertise across various scientific disciplines, including chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology, and criminalistics.
