The University of Hawai'i is seeking a part-time Lecturer in Oceanography for the University College at Honolulu Community College. This is a temporary position for the Fall 2025 semester, with assignments contingent on the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements. The role involves teaching assigned courses in the discipline, maintaining office hours, providing instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives, and preparing course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress. The lecturer will work under the supervision of the discipline coordinator or division chairperson and must be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, including on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites, and distance learning assignments. This position is not remote, and teaching on military bases requires Department of Defense security clearance.

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives, prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Conduct student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
  • Commit to community college principles and philosophy.
  • Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, including on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites, and distance learning assignments.
  • Master's degree in Oceanography or a related field.
  • If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
  • Teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
  • Work experience related to the course to be taught.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or prior experience working with the cultural, social, and economic diversity of Hawai'i's student population.
  • Experience in the use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert, and presentation software.
  • A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
  • Minimum salary of $1911 per credit hour.
  • Part-time employment.
