About The Position

The University College at Honolulu Community College is seeking a part-time Lecturer in Geology and Geophysics for the Spring 2025 semester. This position is temporary and non-tenurial, with assignments contingent on the availability of funds and staffing requirements. The lecturer will be responsible for teaching assigned courses, maintaining office hours, preparing course syllabi, and providing instruction to meet student learning objectives. The role requires commitment to community college principles and may involve evening and weekend teaching assignments, as well as teaching at military bases or through distance learning. A Department of Defense security clearance may be required for teaching on military bases, and background checks will be necessary for teaching Early College courses.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Geology or Geophysics.
  • Degree must be in the subject area unless a related field is listed.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson.
  • Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Participate in student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
  • Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments.
  • Teach on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites, and/or via distance learning.
