The University of Hawaii is seeking a part-time, non-tenure track Lecturer for English as a Second Language (ESL) at Hawaii Community College. This position is temporary and will be placed in the Spring, Summer, and/or Fall lecturer pool, with assignments contingent on the availability of funds and actual staffing requirements across East Hawaii (Hilo), West Hawaii (Kailua-Kona), and North Hawaii (Honokaa) campuses. The lecturer must be able to attend meetings and trainings on short notice and teach courses in person as necessary.

  • Conduct lecture and laboratory courses in the discipline under general supervision.
  • May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Possible evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments.
  • Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.
  • Participate in assessment of course learning outcomes.
  • Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.
  • Master's in English;
  • OR Master's in Writing;
  • OR Master's in Fine Arts (Creative Writing).
  • If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered.
  • Willingness to work with Running Start and Early College programs and pass required additional screening as necessary.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
