Job Summary: Acrisure is seeking a Specialist, Benefit & Leave Administration to join our growing team in Grand Rapids, MI. The Specialist, Benefit & Leave Administration will support the administration of employee leave programs, including those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term and long-term disability plans, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and applicable state and local leave laws. This role focuses on ensuring compliant leave administration, providing compassionate support to employees and leaders throughout the leave lifecycle, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with legal requirements and company policies.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of benefit administration and applicable federal and state laws including FMLA, ADA, and related leave regulations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support employees and leaders throughout the leave process.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and with excellent attention to detail.
  • Maintains highest level of tact and discretion while handling sensitive information.
  • 1 – 3 years of leave of absence administration experience or related HR experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with multi-state leave administration.
  • Experience working with HRIS systems to track leave cases.
  • Exposure to disability benefits administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred or equivalent certification.
  • Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration a plus.
  • Multi-state experience preferred
  • Workday experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the broader HR team and collaborate cross functionally with Compliance, Legal, and vendors.
  • Effectively communicate with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules and ensure employees understand responsibilities and required documentation.
  • Support the FMLA leave administration process from the employee’s initial notice of the need for leave through return to work, including gathering documentation and tracking leave usage.
  • Assist with determining leave eligibility and ensuring required notices and documentation are issued in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Maintain regular communication with employees on leave to support a smooth return-to-work process.
  • Coordinate with leaders and employees regarding leave status, expected return-to-work timelines, and required documentation.
  • Support the administration of leave requests, including those related to ADA accommodations when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with legal requirements and internal practices.
  • Assist in the administration of company time-off programs in accordance with internal policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensure documentation and recordkeeping meet compliance requirements for federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws including FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
  • Ability to troubleshoot disability pay errors and support employee inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
