About The Position

This position works at the Ruan Campus located downtown Des Moines, IA Administer the Leave of Absence program to ensure compliance with state and federal leave of absence laws. Identify leave types, approve or deny requests for leave, calculate and monitor leave duration, and coordinate return to work. Review facts and circumstances of specific leave cases with disclosures, DOT guidelines and documentation to approve returns to work.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelors Degree preferred. Equivalent work experience considered.
  • 1-2 years experience in Human Resources or related field.
  • Must be able to commit to Ruan's value statement by acting with integrity in everything we do.

  • Knowledge of FMLA regulations and requirements required. Requires knowledge of or ability to learn DOT guidelines. Requires strong analytical, interpretive, organization and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Need clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Access, Excel, and Word applications. Experience with HRIS systems

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply federal and state leave of absence laws, union contracts, and company leave of absence policies.
  • Process leave status updates.
  • Send initial leave of absence eligibility packets and leave notifications.
  • Receive, process, track, document and retention of completed leave of absence documentation.
  • Make determination for return to work for those on medical leave while ensuring DOT guidelines have been met. Coordinating DOT clearance with third party administrator.
  • Leave of absence reporting to monitor opened and closed leaves. Maintain statistical data to evaluate trends.
  • Partner to help create and execute leave of absence training.
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions as the main point of contact for leave of absence.
  • Complete disability questionnaires and return to the vendor or states.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
