About The Position

Hunterdon Central is seeking an innovative, student-centered, and dynamic counselor who thrives working with a team. The School Counselor will be responsible for providing academic, career, and personal/social counseling services to students, as well as collaborating with teachers, administrators and families to promote success for all students. Estimated duration is from 10/15/2025 to 3/6/2026.

Requirements

  • Appropriate NJDOE School Counselor Certification required
  • High School experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and support a student-centered school culture
  • Knowledge of current research, trends and best practices in the field of School Counseling
  • Familiarity with student information systems and technology tools for data analysis and communication
  • Knowledge of post-secondary options including, college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities
  • Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to assist students in academic, career, and personal/social development
  • Create and implement innovative counseling programs and intervention that address the needs of diverse student populations
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop and implement initiatives that promote student achievement and well-being
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance counseling skills and stay current with best practicies and trends in the field
