The Learning Technologist at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School is responsible for supporting and enhancing the use of learning management systems (LMS), particularly Canvas, within the Teaching and Learning (T&L) framework. This role involves collaborating with faculty and staff to integrate instructional technologies, providing training and support, and developing innovative solutions to improve the learning experience for students and educators alike.

  • Develop and test new technologies independently or in collaboration with others.
  • Provide technical direction to team members and faculty for best practice technology usage in online courses.
  • Consult with faculty and staff on various instructional technologies such as Canvas, TurnItIn, and Zoom.
  • Assist faculty in integrating instructional technologies into face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.
  • Support the onboarding process for new faculty and staff regarding technological aspects.
  • Assist faculty in developing reusable learning objects and integrating them into courses.
  • Provide support for instructional technologies during the term, including uploading materials and fixing links in Canvas.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and provide training to teaching teams.
  • Test new features and pilot new solutions in conjunction with other JHU schools.
  • Design and deliver training workshops for faculty, TAs, and students on emerging instructional technologies.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or program/course assessment/evaluation.
  • Experience leading sessions using web conferencing tools like Zoom or Teams.
  • Experience developing courses and templates using Canvas.
  • Familiarity with web design tools such as Creative Cloud, HTML, CSS, and JS.
  • Experience in instructional technology support or instructional design in higher education.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and Chatbots.
  • Flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends to support classroom activity.
